Don’t just follow trends, set them! And you can do this not just with clothes and accessories, but with laptop bags as well.

You have to agree that a laptop bag is a necessary item, especially if you own a laptop and would like to be sure that it’s safe even as you move around.

A laptop bag is an important safeguard for your investment. After all, a laptop can cost quite a pretty penny. Add to this the consideration that the content of your laptop are important as well and you don’t want to lose your files due to damage to the laptop.

The good news is that manufacturers have come up with laptop bags that are not only concerned about doing the job – providing a safe carrying case for your all-important laptop – but also bags that are a pleasure to behold.

Go for both Form and Function in Laptop Bags

You know you need a laptop bag that can protect your laptop while you are on the move. But does it have to be boring? Don’t get stuck with the drab and unimaginative black or blue laptop cases.

Nowadays, you have plenty of choices when it comes to trendy laptop cases that also reflect your individuality and personality even as it keeps your precious laptop safe.

When we say “function”, we refer to how well the case does its job. Ask yourself the following:

-          Does it prevent your equipment from being bumped around? You should get a bag that offers a snug fit for your laptop – not to loose but not too tight. Too loose and you bag can be knocked around in transit. Too tight and it may damage the edges of your laptop.

-          Does it have compartments for its accessories, as well anything else you might need – CDs, pens, and so on? It should be roomy enough to accommodate the laptop’s power supply or external hard drives.

-          Is it light, easy to carry and not too bulky?

-          Does it have enough room for any documents you need to carry with you?

-          Does it security zippers and strong straps?

-          How well will it withstand normal wear and tear? Does it stain easily?

As for “form”, we refer to how easy it is on the eyes, how good it looks. What style do you prefer? Are you into the sleek and chic? Are do you prefer bold colors and prints? There are bags that are adorned with flowers, perky polka dots, paisley prints and plaids.

So you can go in style when you have the perfect combination of form and function.

How to choose a laptop bag

When you are in search of a laptop bag or case, it’s important to first see what your actual needs are, so that you are able to buy a laptop that would address those needs. There are a lot of laptop bags out there and it would help to define what you need from the start so that you don’t get mired in confusion as you make your choice.

Here are some points to consider:

-          Occupation. Why do you need a laptop? Is it for school or business? You may need something more formal if you will be using it for business.

-          Lifestyle. Do you move around a lot? What other stuff do you usually carry around, aside from your laptop? If you need to bring documents or other computer accessories, your bag should have the necessary compartments and space. However, if you prefer to go light, you can opt for a plain and simple bag (but one that still sports a trendy design). Also, if you are going on a trip, it’s best to go with a bag that is equipped with a hard case and lots of padding.

-          Laptop. What kind of laptop do you have? Are you using a net book or a high powered (and heftier) version? Do you really need a laptop bag or will a sleeve suffice?

-          Habits. How well do you take care of your things? Will you be able to maintain a leather bag for the long haul? Or would you rather have a bag that’s “Teflon”-coated, meaning the dirt and stains just slide right of the bag. You can choose between polyester, micro fiber and other fabrics. There are even bags that are made of aluminium and other more hardy materials.

It will be helpful to take these into consideration when you start shopping for a laptop bag. source

How to take care of Laptop bag

It is important to know how to properly take care of your laptop carrying case so that you get many years of use from it. Use these care and cleaning tips to help you ensure that your laptop and other mobile gear will stay protected in your laptop carrying case.

Laptop Case Hardware:

    * If the hardware gets wet - wipe off as soon as possible so that it won't rust,
    * Don't apply oil to locks and hinges - it can leak into the case,
    * If the hardware gets scratched or nicked - rub gently with fine steel wool, then re-seal with laquer or clear nail polish.

Zippers:
Never overstuff a laptop carrying case of any style -

    * Puts too much stress on the zippers,
    * Cause them to rip from their seams,
    * Cause the zipper to split.

If zipper teeth are stuck, use a lead pencil and draw up and down both sides of the zipper. You can also use waxed paper to help the zipper work more smoothly.

You can repair zippers that have pulled away - provided you have the proper tools. Katherine Blocksdorf, About Guide to Horses has an easy to follow process for Repairing Stitching in Leather and Heavy Fabrics that is most useful.

Wheels on Roller Cases:

    * Use WD-40 on axles to keep wheels rolling smoothly and quietly.
    * Never bounce your case on the wheels going up or down stairs.
    * Avoid going through wet areas whenever possible. If it can't be avoided be sure to clean and dry off the wheel areas as soon as possible.

Telescopic Handle:

    * Always properly extend the handle before using. Make sure it has locked into position before pulling it.
    * Do not carry the case by the handle - use the shoulder strap or handgrip handle.
    * You can use WD-40 on the telescoping handle to prevent stiffness over time. Some stiffness is normal with a new roller laptop carrying case.

Protection:

    * Before you use your laptop case for the first time, apply a good quality protectant to your laptop carrying case. Make sure you have purchased one that is correct for the material that your laptop case is constructed of. Any time you clean your laptop case, be sure to apply the protectant again. source
